John David Fly was a Methodist lay-preacher who subsequently yielded his pulpit to John Crain, the first ordained minister and circuit rider for the Methodist Church in the area, He also served as a captain in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and he died in 1884
John donated Cemetery and Church Land (3 1/2 Acres) at Goshen, was Pastor until 1808.
