He moved with is parents from North Carolina to Henry County, Tennessee about 1845. Later moved to Hot Springs, Ark. He enlisted in Company H. 37th Arkansas Infantry C.S.A. at Arkadelphia on March 25, 1863. During the battle of Helena, Ark on July 4, 1863 he lost three fingers from his right hand when struck by a rifle ball.
He and his brother Albert Alfred were captured the same day and shipped on board the steamer "Silver Moon" but Anderson was held at a military hospital in Memphis and was exchanged with other prisoners a few days later. He was discharged on May of 1864 and returned home and engaged in farming with his brother John and his father. He was a rural mail carrier after the close of the war and farmed with his brother and father until his death. |
