| Notes for Elmer Wendell Holmes |
Joined the Navy on his 17th birthday (1/12/1947). He took training in San Diego, California and was then assigned to the USS Fred T. Berry D-D858 then to the USS Keppler DD-765. He was held over for the Korean conflict.
Used to tell funny stories and jokes by the hour. One I remember fondly goes like this:
A friend of his was doing some indoor remodeling for a lady and as he left, he noticed a cat sitting outside. Being very diligent, he brought the cat inside, closed and locked the door and left.
The next day the lady called and wanted to know how that cat got inside her house as it wasn't hers and had torn her furniture to shreds. |
